About

Welcome to The Marin Ski Club! We are a sporting and social organization of individuals and families from Marin County and the greater San Francisco Bay area, who enjoy winter sports, summer activities, and social events. Our ski lodge is located on Donner Pass Road in Soda Springs, California, between Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge ski areas. It's an easy 3 hour drive (160 miles) up Interstate 80 from the San Francisco Bay Area..

What We Do

Mostly, we love to downhill ski and snowboard at nearby Sugar Bowl, a hidden gem in the Sierra with a wide variety of terrain and a friendly staff. Some take to cross-country skis on nearby public trails or at the spectacular Royal Gorge, which has recently been rejuvenated. In summer, we bike, hike and swim on the many roads, trails and lakes nearby. There's also some great golf and spectacular rafting in the area. Down in the Bay Area, our social events are well attended throughout the year including summer picnics and an annual holiday party every December. A few summer work parties keep the lodge in good shape and a spring ski race at Sugar Bowl is a fun grudge match against the other local ski clubs. When we're not out and about, we enjoy our wonderful lodge and the camaraderie of our club members, who are like a big family.

A Little History

The club was founded in 1938 as the Marin Skate and Ski Club. In 1958, the Club purchased property in Soda Springs California near Sugar Bowl Ski Area and Donner Summit. Over the next several years, members designed and built a 3,300 square foot Lodge from the ground up. Several members possessed needed building skills that guided and taught other less skilled members, enabling the Lodge to be first opened for use for the 1960-1961 ski season.
